An open door can be so inviting – it sends a message: “come on in … explore, discover, share, connect …”
But it takes something to be willing to cross the threshold – even when a door is wide open. Many walked by our open door in Hayden in the first weeks, before we all got to know each other and folks had the confidence to walk through our open door.
Perhaps walking through an open door has something to do with having an open mind … a mind open to explore, discover, share and connect.
I regret that we live in an age where many are closing their minds – mentally labeling others and their viewpoints so that they walk right on by the open doors – doors that could lead to conversation, understanding, mutual appreciation.
I hope in this political season that is upon us, that we can keep doors open, keep minds open, so that we can meet in some new places.
