Advent offers small group studies throughout the year on various topics. Gatherings are offered in person and via Zoom. See below for current studies.
Join us for a 7-part study - How Lutherans Interpret the Bible - using a discussion curriculum and DVD from Dr. Mark Allan Powell, Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Although there is much benefit from attending all 7 sessions of How Lutherans Interpret the Bible, it is not necessary, so please come when you can! Weekly themes include:
- The Word of God
- What Lutherans Say About the Bible
- Where the Bible Comes From
- Interpreting the Bible in Context and
- Determining Right from Wrong
- The Many Meanings of the Bible
- Devotional Bible Reading
There are two options to attend:
- Sundays at 9:45 am during Adult Forum (in person): Last two sessions are May 1 and May 8
- Tuesday mornings (via Zoom) at 10:00 am. Last session is April 27 (Contact the church office for Zoom link)
Text Study (on Sunday's Lessons)
Join us on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am (in person or via Zoom) as we dive into the Sunday Bible readings each week. Pastor Mark studies these texts and shares some of that in his Sunday sermon. Here’s a chance to hear the texts in advance, learn a bit more about them, and maybe even ask a question or offer an insight that helps with the Sunday sermon. (But please note – Pastor Mark will not quote you or name you without permission!) The text study will begin in May. Contact the church office for Zoom link.
